THE most sought after golf tournament on the Entebbe Golf Club calendar, the JBG Open will this year feature a special category for the senior golfers.

Thirty senior golfers (55 years and above) have registered to compete in the 18th edition of the tournament due on Saturday at the par 71 club.

The seniors will play alongside 175 golfers in the stableford full handicap format of play that is going to be played under the theme, 'empowering engineering innovations'.

The addition of the seniors is one of the changes to be effected this year after last year saw the introduction of the gross category, as the tournament gets bigger and better.

The tournament started yesterday with 18 professionals in action, competing for sh10m over 36 holes.

Addressing a press conference at JBG offices in Kololo Entebbe Club Executive Committee member Marvin Kagoro who represented the chairman and club secretary said already the tournament had generated a lot of excitement and they were looking forward to many years of JBG partnership.

JBG Managing Director Emmanuel Mugamba said they had zeroed on sponsoring Entebbe because the club is very promising with a good reflection of the generation today.

"Life is not at the end when you get old so we decided to add the seniors' category so that they are not left out," Mugamba said.

Entebbe Club has enjoyed a long relationship with JBG and have benefitted a lot from their sponsorship.

This year JBG is looking at improving the lighting around the club house and or constructing a shelter for the caddies.

Entebbe Club customised trophies, golf kit and several other prizes await the different category winners. Germany ambassador to Uganda Dr. Peter Blomeyer will preside over the prize ceremony.
