UGANDA national team’s golfer Ronald Rugumayo carded an opening two-over-par 74 to take the lead on day-one of the Rwanda Open at Kigali Golf Club on Wednesday.

 

The scratch player from Toro Club is among nine national team members who are competing in the annual tournament, before they combine later to try and defend the East African Challenge due November 17-21 at the same course.

 

Rugumayo holds  a three-stroke lead over team mate Happy Robert and four strokes over team captain Ronald Bukenya and Rwandan national team golfer Jules Mutesa who returned 78 gross each.

 

Uganda Open double champion Ronald Otile is five strokes off the leader after returning 79.

 

Jonh Baptiste Hakizimana leads the professional category on 72 going into the second round of the four-day contest.
