This year's just concluded Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) have registered tremendous success as no malpractices were registered when pupils sat their final paper on Tuesday.

Mathew Bukenya, the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Executive Secretary told New Vision in a telephone interview that the hitches they often experience during this period were minimal.

In Monday's press briefing, UNEB's Deputy Secretary for primary Chrysostom Kibeti listed shortage of exam papers due to wrong packing figures provided by the district inspectors of schools as one of the challenges they faced. Invigilators were however instructed to make photocopies to resolve the matter.

621,454 candidates sat this year's exams. Results of these exams are be expected to come out early next year.

Meanwhile a total of nine inmates, including 35 year old Nickson Akena also sat for their exams on Tuesday and Wednesday. They are pupils of Prisons primary school, Gulu.

Christopher Opira, the school's head teacher said they registered 97 candidates, 10 of whom were inmates. One however did not turn up following his release.

Akena said he was excited to sit for his exams, saying he wants to become a lawyer in future.
