Nominations: stick to rules, EC tells aspirants

Any candidate who contravenes the laws and guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission (EC) will strictly be penalized.

“Fellow countrymen we appeal to all of you to keep sanity in this coming electioneering period. Presidential nomination exercise is kicking off in 2 hours’ time. President Museveni will be the first to be nominated at 10am,” EC secretary Sam Rwakoojo.

He explained that President Museveni is allowed at Namboole with his security detail because the law entails him as a Head of State. Other presidential aspirants will be required to move with only 20 supporters to Namboole.

EC issued certificates of clearance to 10 presidential aspirants.

The cleared aspirants who await nomination on November 3 and 4 are: Abed Bwanika, C Baale, Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba, Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Amama Mbabazi, Yoweri Museveni, BRM Biraaro, Joseph Mabirizi, Nasser Ssebagala and Faith Walube Kyalya.

Nominations of Presidential candidates are conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole starting 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Each of the aspirants must use 2 vehicles whose occupancy should not exceed 20 persons.

Nomination time on November 3: Museveni - 10:00am, Mbabazi 11:00am, Baryamureeba 12:00pm, Lwanga 2:00pm. Besigye 11:00am, Bwanika 12:00pm, Mabirizi 2:00pm on November 4.
