The Disability Sports Event that was held at CoRSU Rehabilitation Hospital at Kisubi on Saturday proved why disabled children shouldn’t be neglected in communities.

At the end of the one-day event whose theme was, “I am talented. I am able”, every child who participated was presented with a medal because according to CoRSU’s CEO Simpson Malcolm, ‘all were winners’.

“The best way to motivate  these children is by making  them know that they are all winners. We plan to have this event annually just to show the public what the children are capable of doing and to make them feel that they are part of the community,” Malcolm said.

He added that the event will be used as a drive to raise funds to help disabled children access medical services.

“The hospital offers free medical treatment including surgery to all those below 18 years but the doctors need to be paid and therefore we have to look at all possible ways of raising money to pay for their services,” he explained.

The disabled children competed in athletics, boccia, wheelchair racing and other Paralympic sports.

CoRSU partly funded the knee surgery of She Cranes  netball player Elizabeth Atonet.
