RESULTS: NRM picks Museveni, new leaders

The NRM Conference today endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as their presidential candidate for the 2016 Uganda elections. There was also voting for several top positions in the party.

The NRM Conference today endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as their presidential candidate for the 2016 Uganda elections. There was also voting for several top positions in the party with Godfrey Nyakaana bagging the Vice Chairman position for Kampala region.

The elections at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole were peaceful, in sharp contrast to the often emotionally contested primaries at lower level. Many of the top posts, including that of chairman had aspirants sail through unopposed.

 

Kampala region

With 3389 votes (64.1%), Godfrey Nyakana wins race for  national vice chairman, KAMPALA region.

While campaigning, Amooti Nyakana said: "I would like to work as a bridge between the historicals and the emerging young cadres".

His opponent, Katongole Singh said: " I think the position of Kla region vice chair is not for boxing but mobilisation"

 

 

Northern region

Sam Engola gets 3,338 votes against Eng. Hilary Onek's 1534  making him @ national vice chairman, Northern.

The Secretary General;

The Deputy Secretary General;

Deputy National Treasurer ;

Members of the NRM Municipal Executive Committees;

Members of the NRM Municipal Councils;

Promoters of the NRM Organization;

Executive Committees of the NRM Branches in the Diaspora;

NRM National Secretaries;

NRM Members of Parliament;

NRM members of East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA)

Members of NRM Historical Leaders Forum

Members of the National Executive Committees of all Special Organs other than (p) above;

NRM Chairpersons of Districts;

NRM parliamentary flag bearers;

NRM flag bearers for district chairpersons

Municipality mayors

Members of NRM District Executive Committees;

Members of the District Executive Committees of all Special Organs.

NRM Members on District Councils;

Chairpersons of Sub-county Conferences.

 

The Chairperson may invite not more than twenty (20) individuals who have made a special contribution to the struggle or who have special skills or experience to attend the Conference as observers.
