POLICE chief Gen Kale Kayihura has shuffled 29 Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate (CIID) detectives country wide.

For the past month, Kayihura has been on tour in several regions amid allegations of poor case management and investigations by Police detectives.

Reports from senior ranking officers speaking on condition of anonymity said that Kayihura was re-enforcing upcountry police stations in preparations for the upcoming 2016 general elections.

“Most of the officers transferred to various stations are fresh from elections-related training,” the source said.

In the past three months, Kayihura has transferred 210 officers.

Other senior officers said Kayihura was on a fact finding mission up-country. He found out that most detectives don't investigate cases fully.

Sources revealed that Kayihura is focused on countering crimes within the country and to ensure efficiency and effectiveness among the police detectives, refuting claims that the officers have been extorting the public.

So far a total of 89 police detectives are being investigated on allegations of extortion by Police's Professional Standards Unit.

Deputy police spokesperson, Polly Namaye said Kayihura has transferred and appointed 83 officers, most of whom have completed an intermediate command course.

“They are tasked with promoting the community policing initiatives such as neighborhood watch, personal and premise security, crime prevention and management so as to ensure a crime free society,” Namaye said.

She said transfers in police are normal and usually take immediate effect.
