"The proceeding went on well though there was a delay because we found another very crucial injury that we hadn't planned for but we had to work on it first and that meant she got two operations at the cost of one," said Dr.Muhumuza who worked with three other surgeons in the four-hour procedure.

Muhumuza added that the 25 year old was also found with a meniscal injury on the same knee that delayed the operation.

He later warned her not to overwork her knee before the end of the stated period.

"There is a possibility that one may feel better during the fourth month but it doesn't mean they have healed so she shouldn't overwork her knee but rather follow all the prescriptions," he said.

Atonet sustained the injury four months ago during national team training ahead of the Netball World Cup that was held in August in Australia.

But since then, the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) seemed to give her a deaf ear not until the National Council of Sports committed to pay her surgery bill of sh4.57m following an initiative by the New Vision to publicise her plight.
