The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) yesterday gave sh10m for the Pope Walk and souvenir rosaries from Rome.

In a bid to raise funds for the reconstruction of Namugongo and Munyonyo martyrs shrines, Vision Group has organised the Pope Walk and sale of rosaries.

NWSC managing director Dr. Silver Mugisha yesterday handed over the money to Vision Group CEO Robert Kabushenga at NWSC offices on Jinja road.

Mugisha said the contribution is in line with NWSC’s corporate social responsibility. Sh1m will go towards the Pope walk for NWSC employees and sh9m will be for rosaries. Walkers pay sh10,000 and sh100,000 for the rosaries from Rome.

“NWSC considers the martyrs shrines as a boost to development in Uganda,” Mugisha said while handing over the money to Kabushenga.

“We deem it prudent to support any initiatives geared towards enhancing Uganda’s potential to earn foreign currency through national shrines,” he said.

Mugisha thanked Vision Group for the effort they have put in making the Pope’s visit worthwhile. He said NWSC is also doing its best to make the Pope’s visit memorable.

“We have already installed permanent water in the shrines at Namugongo and Munyonyo and the neighbourhood. During the Pope’s visit, nobody will suffer from water shortage,” Mugisha said.

Kabushenga thanked NWSC for their generous offer.
