Deo Akope and Opio Onito returned two-over-par 73 to share joint leadership after day-one at the Kinyara Golf Open in Masindi.


Akope who last competed at the par 71 course in 2006, netted two birdies and four bogies enroute to taking the lead.

Brian Mwesigwa closely follows the leaders in third place on 73 going into the last round of the 36-hole, sh10m contest.

Entebbe Club's George Olayo, Silver Opio and Palm Valley's are also tied in third place on 75 gross each.

Phillip Kasozi (77), Herman Mutaawe (77) and defending champion Vincent Byamukama (78) are also still in the running for the cash which will be shared by the top 8 professionals.

In the amateur category, Entebbe Golf Club youngster Herman Mutebi returned level par 71 to remain on course for his first Kinyara victory.

He is 3 strokes ahead of fellow national team mates; Adolf Muhumuza and Ronnie Bukenya who returned three-over-par 74 each to remain trailing the junior golfer.

Kampala's Joseph Mawejje and Gerald Kabuye are keeping the chess on the leaders on 75 and 76 respectively.
