Business came to a standstill on Friday in Kasese district as supporters of one of the candidates in Kasese municipality mayoral race, Paul Asaba, marched through the town singing his name and praises.

When closing the joint campaigns rallies in Kamaiba, the supporters of Asaba defied police directive to use the Kasese-Mbarara high way and instead passed through the central business area causing traffic jam and bringing several business to a halt for hours.

While in town, his convoy mixed with that of Kambale Ferigo who is contesting for the Kasese municipality MP seat and police immediately intervened and asked them to drive out of town.

In his speech, Agaba noted that unlike other politicians, he has done a lot for Kasese and that it was time to pay him back.

“I single handedly started Asamu model secondary school and is fully functioning. I have been paying school fees from my pockets, not from government for 40 students," he boasted.

Asaba is challenging the incumbent Godfrey Kabyanga on the NRM ticket and the two have been combing the villages looking for votes.

Kabyanga, while summing his campaigns said that people of Kasese should not rely on rumours and that they should vote him basing on what he had done for the last five years.

“When I came in this municipality only sh900m was being collected as local revenue but I have managed to increase the revenue base to over sh3b, that is a very big achievement,” said Kabyanga.

Kabyanga said that since he was elected the mayor, he has implemented a lot of council resolutions and that people should not look at him as a non-performer.
