I would thank him for bringing a new dimension to the way people see Christianity and Catholicism. He has this laid back attitude of leading the people as they are that they should not be castigated. He does not have this holier than thou attitude that can be a total put off. Whoever you are, you are welcome.  He encourages us not castigate people just because they do not believe what we believe, be it Muslim or Jew and other religions, consequently promoting peace. I would also thank him for his simplicity because the whole world is awed by the pope doing away with all the expected airs around him.

Polly Namaye, Deputy Police spokesperson

I would start by thanking him for the work he is doing, praying for all nations, and to continue praying for everybody especially the sick and needy.

The needy especially prompt crime, so I would ask him to pray for them to find means out of poverty, and for the youth to find employment. I would also ask him to pray for the families because it’s the nucleus profoundly important to the developmental, emotional and cognitive growth of a child.

And lastly I would ask him to pray for me, because every day I meet new challenges and I need the wisdom to handle them.

I would ask him to tell church leaders in Uganda to include Ethics and integrity in their preaching, to their congregation in the public offices that they occupy. They should explain to them that they hold the public offices in the trust of the people of Uganda and should hence consider these offices sacred.

Florence Nakiwala,Former Buganda Minister for Tourism

I would ask him to pray for Uganda, for a peaceful transition of power at all levels. Since I am an ardent women’s rights activist I would ask that he prays that the female prisoners who have served over thirty years in prison are released. I would stick to women because they are wired genetically different from the men and prisons are harder for them.

Theresa Mbiire,Business woman and presidential advisor

I would ask him to pray for peace and blessings for Uganda. I would also thank him for recognizing the poor, sick, vulnerable and young.

Cissy Kagaba, Executive Director of the Anti- Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU)

I would ask the pope to ask the president where the problem is regarding corruption in Uganda. The fact that the president invited him means he believes in him and the fact that he honored the invitation means he respects the president. So in churches they preach human rights but then if the money to ensure everyone’s human rights is being stolen, then we have to sort it out.

Betty Amongi, Oyam South MP

I would thank him for the reforms he is championing especially with issues to do with marriage and divorce in the church and vowing to rid the catholic church of sex abuse of children by clergy, by creating a Vatican tribunal to investigate clergy accused of such crimes.

Margaret Sekajja, the former chairperson of Uganda Human Rights Commission

I would ask him to pray for peace in the world. There is a lot of turmoil. He should also pray for peaceful elections, stability and peace, because those will ensure human rights.

Marion Nankya, Buganda royal

I would tell him to pray for our country especially peace and prosperity now that we are heading towards the elections period.

Salam Musumba, District Chairperson Kamuli

I would ask that he prays for a miracle to rid our country of endemic corruption such that all leaders serve humanity.
