The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mutebi has kicked off his tour of Busiro County, Wakiso district as part of activities to mark the 53rd Independence celebrations slated to take place on Friday.

Youth, elderly men and women, and school children lined up along Kampala-Entebbe road to welcome their king.

Many gathered at various trading centres like Zana, Kajjansi and Nkumba singing  songs for the Kabaka. Arches were also erected at various points.

The Kabaka arrived at about 11:30am in Katabi accompanied by Prince Kiwewa Jjunju and was welcomed by the Katikiro.

Speaking to the gathering, Mutebi asked people to work with commitment and unity to fight poverty. He also planted a tree to officially launch Bulungi Bwansi (Community Service program).

He later proceeded to Botanical gardens where he met several school children. Here, he was treated to poems, music and drama which were aimed at reviving the volunteerism among Baganda and the country at large.

In his message through the Katikiro, the Kabaka urged schools to embrace volunteerism to promote good morals, culture and development.

He commended teachers for instilling good knowledge about community service and environmental protection.

Mayiga also added that that community volunteerism can help in renovating bridges, roads, and promoting good health in communities than waiting for government all the time.
