National Resistance Movement (NRM) has banned using of government vehicles to canvass for support in party primaries.


“Effective tomorrow, no minister will be allowed to use public vehicles in campaigns. They have good salaries and good personal vehicles. Using public vehicles for campaigns, fundraising, bribes is illegal,” NRM Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi told a news conference in Kampala on Tuesday.

He added: “Standards of free and fair elections set by the national EC also apply to NRM primaries.”

Campaigns for primaries for constituency MPs, women MPs, LC5 chairpersons, lord mayor and municipal mayors kick off October 6.

Nomination of NRM presidential candidate will take place on November 3, 2015 at 10am. The party announced that the first meeting of the NRM delegates conference will take place from October 30 to November 2 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
