The Uganda rowing team is likely to survive on borrowed equipment's as they prepare for the African Olympic qualification regatta starting Monday in Tunisia.

The team of two athletes, Douglas Kisarale and Raymond Adiga departed last week with one official Rodrick Muhumuza who is also expected to double as the national coach ahead of the qualifiers.

Uganda has only registered for the light men's doubles (LM2X) category and according to Muhumuza, it's the only category they hope to do well in and besides that, the International rowing federation (FISA) could only sponsor them with three air tickets.

"They are good athletes and we hope to get good results though we would have preferred to take more athletes but our hands are tied due to lack of resources," he said.

He added, "The biggest challenge now is that we have not carried any penny not even players allowances and this means we are left with one option and that's to stoop low and plead with other teams to assist us with their equipment."

The Maroons club rowers who are the East and Central doubles champions and three times national champions were boosted with track suites from Oksford Consults before the departure as they prepared for the three day event.
