Uganda women national basketball team, the Gazelles return on court Monday (today) against South Africa as they look for their first win at the AfroBasket tournament in Cameroon.
The Gazelles who have already lost three games against Gabon, Mozambique and Cameroon are up against a South African team that is also yet to win any game at the Championship.
Against Cameroon the Ugandan girls could only manage 30% shooting from the 2-point range and only 18% from the 3 point range against one of the favourites of the championship.
Maureen Amoding scored 15 points and 10 rebounds while Peace Proscovia managed 7 points and 11 rebounds for the Ugandans who wind up their preliminary games against Mali Tuesday.
Third quarter meltdown Earlier against Mozambique, Muhaimina Namuwaya (13pts), Maureen Amoding (12pts), and Martha Soigi (12pts) top scored for the Gazelles who collapsed in the third quarter to hand the initiative to Mozambique who won the match 73-50.
Despite winning the second quarter 19-13, the Gazelles collapsed 24-9 in the third quarter and their late fight-back in the fourth quarter (16-11) was only for damage limitation.
Cameroon and Angola remain the only undefeated sides after three games, while Uganda, Guinea, Algeria and South Africa are yet to win a game.
