Only 24 referee novices, six of them women out of 43 people who attended an eight day course for football referees passed the oral, written and physical fitness tests at Mbale Municipal Stadium.

The course conducted by CAF referees’ instructor Ali Waswa attracted participants from Iganga, Lira, Butaleja, Bududa, Sironko and Mbale districts.

According to the competitions committee chairman of Mbale district Football Association (MDFA) Abdallah Kayiwa, the 19 who did not make it performed well in oral tests and physical fitness exercise but failed the written test.

“The successful candidates are to receive certificates from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) before they start officiating 4th and 5th division football competitions in their respective districts this season,” Kayiwa said.

Meanwhile, the 4th and 5th Division MDFA round-robin football leagues for the 2015/2016 soccer season tentatively kicks off in the first week of October.
