Mbabali trounced in Lwengo NRM polls

THE Controversial district NRM party chairman race results were announced via phone.

The Lwengo district NRM party chairman,Hajji Muyanja Mbabali lost the race to veteran politician, Rtd Cpt. Mulindwa Bilimumaaso by 123 to 149 votes in the communication.

The EC party commissioner for Buganda Region, Jane Ashemelirwe made the communication on Friday evening via a phone which was connected to a loud speaker at the district NRM party offices in Mbirizi trading centre.

The announcement sent Capt Mulindwa’s supporters into wild celebrations.  

Earlier, anti-riot police and supporters of Capt Mulindwa were engaged in running battles between Kyazanga and Mbirizi trading centre where they were advancing to protest the delay to release the results.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the charged crowd during the counting of the election exercise at Lwengo district headquarters on Thursday.
