Fort Portal accident claims seven

Seven people were killed and several others injured after a truck they were travelling in overturned along the Fort Portal - Kasese highway.

The accident occurred on Tuesday night at Buhesi village in Buhesi Sub County, about 20 kilometers from Fort Portal town.

The truck, registration number UAJ 659T, was carrying about 11 matooke traders enroute Kamapla from Kasese.

The injured were rushed to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital and the bodies to the mortuary.

Police identified teh dead as Francis Tumusiime, 35, the driver of the lorry; Alex Monday, Anatolia Kisembo, Sanyu Byamukama, Francis Mirembe , Tuhaise and one unidentified lady.

Boaz Alinaitwe, the Kabarole district traffic officer said the lorry overturned after a tyre burst.
