Main opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) will not withdraw from the The Democratic Alliance (TDA), the party said Tuesday.

This follows a hurriedly convened National Executive Committee meeting at the party headquarters at Najjanankumbi on Tuesday following a petition by party youths and Rukiga County Member of Parliament Jack Sabiti that the party withdraws from the coalition over claims that some members of TDA were favoring former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.

Addressing a press conference, Party president Mugisha Muntu said the party was still in the coalition and that they had given their party members the right information about their status.

“We are still members of the TDA and tomorrow (Wednesday) we will attend the meeting at TDA ,” Muntu said.

The members, among others, claimed that the TDA had allowed Mbabazi get nominated as a flag bearer outside the period that had been set by the coalition and yet the party’s highest organ, The Summit, had not been consulted.

Mbabazi, who heads the 'Go Forward Pro-Change' pressure group, was nominated at 10:10pm on Friday, triggering protests among some TDA members.

The petitioners also claimed that Mbabazi was reaping where he had not sown and that his financial muscle seemed to sway most decisions in his favour.

The petition follows claims on social media that TDA coalition preferred Mbabazi candidature to Besigye.

Five candidates are contesting for the TDA flag bearer, including Besigye, Mbabazi, Norbert Mao (Democratic Party), Erias Lukwago (Truth and Justice Platform) and former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya (Pressure for National Unity (PNU).
