New Vision readers have contributed sh36m to the family of former Senior Principal State Attorney, Joan Kagezi who was murdered on March 30, 2015 by unknown assailants.

Kagezi was a lead prosecutor in the 2010 bombing case in which 76 people were killed. She was survived by four children who needed  help.

Suzan Nsibirwa Vision Group’s head of marketing on Thursday handed over a dummy cheque of sh36m to Phillip Kagezi, a son of the late Kagezi.

The function was held at Vision Group’s head office in Kampala.

Nsibirwa said that Vision Group was humbled to bring to a close, the fundraising drive that was initiated by the company’s chief executive officer, Robert Kabushenga.

“By spearheading the campaign, we wanted to show that we cared and that we were touched by the sudden departure of our beloved mother. Thanks to everyone who contributed," Nsibirwa said.

At the launch of the campaigns, Kabushenga said: "We are doing this because Kagezi was a distinguished public servant of very high integrity who was murdered because of her service to the country. We should give her children hope."

Other organisations and individuals who contributed money included: Patricia Mutesi, Barbra Batwala, Jude Kyanda, Charles Mbire, Juliet Happy Dumas and City Tyres. Many contributors used mobile money to wire their contributions.

Nsibirwa noted that the money that was contributed was intended to celebrate Kagezi’s life.

Phillip Kagezi thanked Kabushenga and Vision Group family who rendered assistance to them during the challenging moment.

“We find it so unfair that our mother died the way she did but you have stood with us. This is a sign that our mum did not die in vain,” Phillip a fresh law graduate said.

He also thanked President Museveni and government for the continued support to the family.
