Did Salvador cut it on foreign soil?

SO many times we don't get the opportunity to watch Ugandan comedians perform on foreign soil and gauge them against the continent's best. We rely on external news and take that as it is.

Last week, Ugandan stand-up comedian Patrick Salvado Idringi was the main act at Outrigger Beach Resort, in Mauritius, on a night themed "Night Of Magic."

The night was showcasing TV content from East Africa and Zambezi region. These were part of activities of the recently-concluded Content Showcase Extravaganza organised by pay-tv MultiChoice Africa.

Salvado got on stage close to 9:00pm. His task was to keep the jokes African and have them laughing. He never dithered at it.

He started off trolling Nigerian movie industry and their lengthy soundtracks and everyone laughed. Then he tore into Ugandans for their lackadaisical approach to everything in life.

"Ugandan MCs take forever to announce performers. They will go back and forth on stage before the first performer is announced," he said, lacing it with a small act to send his point home. People laughed at us. But it was all fun.

Maybe when he attempted at the gay issue was he going overboard. He, too, was a bit cautious at whatever he was saying. To his audience on the night, the material was absolutely fresh to their eyes and ears and that is what works for every comedian.

This is Salvado's second time at this annual five-day extravaganza that aims at previewing the latest content on DStv's biggest channels. On the night, it was revealed that shows like "Generations," "Isidingo" and "Our Perfect Wedding," would be returning on the pay-tv.

Salvado's performance was after The Zambezi News team 'live broadcast' of their biting satirical news content. It was a good time of comedy for everyone.

The dance floor was opened after his performance and the night went on.
