Top seed Alfred ‘Black Sheep’ Gumikiriza is taking on his preparations for the Nile Special Open to a high gear with a build-up in Kenya next week.

The league top-scorer said the Nairobi tour will help him gauge himself against better players.

“I am working hard to ensure that I perform better. I want to do my best because winning this championship can change my life,” said Gumikiriza on Wednesday.

With the top prize of a car, sh2m and a pool table on his mind, the USPA Pool Player of the Year 2014 is investing eight hours of training daily.

A new wave of talent has emerged in the on-going qualifiers posing a serious challenge to the top seeds in the final.

Some top guns including former champion Jonah Turigye is among the formidable players who were shown the exit.

But Gumikiriza believes that the Kenyan tour will put him in a better position in preparations. “I played everybody here. I need to take on other challengers now,” he said.

Gumikiriza is among the top eight seeds who have automatic berths to the grand final due on October 24 at Lugogo.

The top eight players are exempted from the on-going qualifiers which will determined the other 100 players in the final.

Other top seeds include seed two and defending champion Fahad Ssewankambo, Amos Ndyagumanawe, Sula Matovu, Fred Namanya, Navy Matovu, Ivan Kanyesigye and Ezra Kaggwa.
