A Catholic priest, Fr. Emmanuel Mboggo Nsubuga, 76, who succumbed to prostate cancer on Saturday was buried Monday at St Joseph’s Catholic Parish, Lweza where he had served four years.

According to the Parish priest, Fr. John Vianney Mugabo, before he passed on, Mboggo had a chat with fellow priests and all seemed well. Mugabo said he had found him at the church compound listening to radio.

Mugabo and Mboggo later discussed President Yoweri Museveni’s visit to the Church, which took place on Sunday.

According to Mugabo, Mboggo said that he had heard on radio that Museveni would be going to Nakaseke for Rose Namayanja’s thanksgiving.

“He asked me whether the President will manage to attend the church’s function,” Mugabo said.

“I told him that: “what I know President can’t promise us air; if he fails to come he will send us a representative. After that chat I left him,” Mugabo narrated.

However, Mboggo did not live to see the President. Fr. Mboggo was one of the classmates of Msgr Matthias Kanyerezi, the vicar General of Kasana-Luwero diocese; Msgr John Baptist Kabyanga of Kibaale in Hoima diocese, and Fr. Henry Kasule, the Parish Priest of Kitovu in Masaka among many others.

His death comes two weeks after the death of Bishop Paul Kalanda, Emeritus of Fort-Portal and Moroto dioceses, and Fr. Joseph Mugambe.

Before he joined Lweza, along Entebbe road in Wakiso district, Mboggo served several parishes including Nandere, Nkokonjeru, Ggoli, Kigoowa, Namiryango, Naddangira as Parish Priest for several years.

Mugabo said Mboggo was four months back admitted to Nsambya hospital where doctors diagnosed him with prostate cancer.

But after treating him for one month he was sent back home. He was supposed to go back to hospital on September 9 for review.

According to his niece, Regina Nankya, Fr Mboggo was born on September 9, 1940 to the late Nsubuga Kyagamba and Veronica Namubiru Kyagamba of Nama-Kirigente in Katende Catholic Parish.

“He was the second born of the family of three children, and both of my father and uncle were killed at once during the war in 1982,” Nankya reminisced.

He was ordained a priest forty six years ago.

Assisted by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, Kampala Archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga presided over the requiem Mass that preceded Mbogo’s burial at Lweza.
