All is set for the Cancer Run on Sunday

The organisers of this year’s 4th annual Cancer Run —Rotary Uganda —have confirmed that the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda Louis Kasekende will be the chief runner at the event on Sunday.

The organisers of this year’s 4th annual Cancer Run —Rotary Uganda —have confirmed that the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda Louis Kasekende will be the chief runner at the event on Sunday.

Vice President Edward Ssekandi will grace the event as Guest of Honour.

Pepsi and Centenary Bank are major sponsors of the run. Kasekende and Ssekandi will flag off the run at 7am at Kololo Independence grounds.


The run, which is aimed at collecting over sh300m for the construction of a blood bank at Mengo Hospital, is expected to attract over 20,000 runners.

According to Percy Lubega-Centenary Bank’s Chief Manager for Business Development, good health builds a good foundation for business prosperity.

“As a bank, we contributed shs107million in this year’s run and over sh800m in the past cancer fight initiatives as part of our CSR umbrella “Bridging the cancer Gap” because we believe that a healthy community and healthy customers are a good foundation for business prosperity,” Lubega said.

Pepsi, also a leading sponsor in this year’s run contributed sh150m in the run and over sh400m in the fight against cancer over the previous myears.

Crown Breverages CEO Simon Lugoloobi pointed that; “Many people have lost their lives to blood shortage in hospitals and we need to put that to an end. I encourage all eligible citizens and all our customers to take part in this year’s run,” Lugoloobi said.

Tickets to the run go for sh20, 000 and can be purchased from all Centenary Bank branches around Kampala, Shoprite Lugogo, Garden City and at City square.
