KOBS smashed Mutoni Warriors 38-7 in the final to lift both the Edward Kitaka Memorial Circuit and the National 7s title at Legends Rugby Club on Saturday.

 

Team captain James Ijongat, Justin Kimono and Ramathan Govule scored 2 tries each while Ramathan Govule and Oscar Kalyango managed a try each to seal Kobs’ victory.

 

An excited Kobs team captain James Ijongat said the victory relieved his charges of the 7s title drought.

 

"We last won a 7s title in 2006 and I think this trophy has boosted our morale ahead of the Uganda Cup that is next on Calendar," Ijongat stated.

 

At the semifinal, Kobs defeated traditional rivals Hima Cement Heathens 10-7   while Warriors whipped Sadolin Mongers 15-5.

Jinja Hippos’ Etwau reigns supreme

Little known Jinja Hippos' Dennis Etwau emerged the tournament’s MVP beating celebrated players like Michael Wokorach and Lawrence Ssebuliba who scored a number of tries for their club Heathens.

 

The circuit which attracted a sizable number of fans saw the title contenders Buffaloes eliminated at the quarterfinal stage by Kobs.

 

"This boy has been outstanding in all the games despite playing for an inferior side and he deserves to be recognized for his effort," tournament director Oscar Olaro stated.

 

He lauded the clubs for honouring all this year's circuits and pledged to have a better tournament next season.
