THE Board of Directors of the Milton Obote Foundation (MOF) has asked the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party president, Jimmy Akena, to stop interfering in the foundation’s affairs.
The foundation also noted that they cannot deal with Akena’s faction because they are illegally occupying the party office.
This follows a resolution passed by Akena's faction during their national council meeting, calling for disciplinary action against some members of the foundation.
Addressing journalists at his office at Uganda House, where UPC also its headquarters, the foundation's chairman, Nelson Ofwono said Akena and his faction have no mandate to summon any of the foundation’s members.
He accused the faction of unsuccessfully attempting to forcefully take over the foundation and its subsidiary companies on four separate occasions.
Ofwono said since the group took over office, it has greatly affected its work.
He explained that the relationship of MOF and UPC is only a collaborative one based on the fact that they were both founded by same individuals with similar ideals for the development of Uganda.
When contacted, Akena said his legality as the UPC leader is not a matter of MOF to determine and said all those summoned were called as UPC members in their individual capacity who should respect the party constitution and rules set by the National Council.
