TENNIS star David Oringa came from a set down to eliminate Kenya's Sheil Kotecha at the quarterfinals of the Britam Kenya Open Tennis Championship at Nairobi Club.

Oringa beat Kotecha 1-6 7-5 6-4 to book a place in the semis final where  he will face the defending  champion  from  Ishmael Changawa  from Kenya who defeated  Ugandan  Simon Ayella 6-0 6-0 in the last eight.

In the other tie, Oringa paired with Nikita Dawda (Kenya) lost to the pair Sheil Kotecha and Sneha Kotecha 6-2 6-4 in the mixed doubles final.

However Oringa still has a chance to win a medal since on Thursday he will be paired with Zambia's Edgar Kazembe to the play the quarterfinals in the men's doubles were they battle Amon Nzuki and Robert Nzuk both from Kenya.

Uganda hopes of winning more medals  in the doubles were reduced  after Ugandans Ayella  and Edward Odocken lost to  Abdella Nedim  (Ethiopia) and Ibrahim Yego (Kenya) 6-3 6-4 on Wednesday.

In the last edition, Kenya's Changwa defeated  Duncan Mugabe and Oringa  in the final and quarterfinal respectively to win the crown.

Changwa also became the first Kenyan to win the men's singles title since 2009 when Allan Cooper lifted it.
