If there is anything you’d expect to pull crowds in an instant, it would be soccer and for that matter, you’d expect more for a world cup final.

However, this wasn’t the case on Sunday night, as Coca-Cola Uganda hosted football fans to a rapturous World Cup final between Germany and Argentina at Hotel Africana.

This can be possibly attributed to the sad memories of the Kyadondo blasts that claimed numerous lives as fans gathered to watch the finals of the previous edition of the world’s biggest footballing tournament, in South Africa (2010).

A reasonable number of seats remained empty for the full length of the game despite the reassuring heavy deployment of security operatives including the police bomb squad at the venue.

Nonetheless, numerous strong spirited football lovers made their way to the Hotel Africana people’s space to have a refreshing experience of the 2014 final, live from Brazil.

By 6:30pm, some had already arrived; sipping on the free cool refreshments availed by the beverage firm.

This they did for close to two hours before various entertainers including former Blu*3 sensation, Cindy captured the attention of the crowd with electrifying performances.

Come 10:00pm, all the excitement disappeared in thin air when the whistle was blown to kick start the world’s most awaited game, the world cup final of the 2014 edition between two of the planet’s best footballing nations, Germany and Argentina.

It was only tension engulfing each of the revellers, nomatter which team they supported. For most of the moment, it always seemed like the victory would go either side, a situation that kept the revellers on the edges of their seats.

The half time whistle is what saved the moment, with many pleasurably grabbing the first chance in 45 minutes to take a calm, relaxed breath. “Ehh….wakili omuntu agenda kuwewelamu ko…,” one of the fans was overheard confessing at halftime.

This literally meant ‘Oh, at least someone has gotten an opportunity to relax a bit.’

Shortly after, Mun*G, King Saha and Coco Finger took the half time break to entertain the fans, but it was Saha who commanded control of the crowds more as the fans, male and female altogether raced from their seats to the state of the art platform to have a closer look at the Mulirwana star.

The fifteen minutes of the break ended so soon as the fans instantly switched moods back to anxiety; this time even more than the first half had brought.

You would see almost all of them jump from their seats when a goal scoring opportunity showed face.

The game ended in the wee hours of the morning; in favour of the Germans.

This saw the ones that had rallied behind Argentina all the while walking out of the hotel’s space with shock and disappointment written all over their faces.
