The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has extended the deadline for receiving applications for national census jobs to Friday July 4.

Godfrey Nabongo, the UBOS Manager Communication and Public Relations confirmed the deadline extension at a media briefing on Monday. The earlier deadline was Monday June 30.

“The public is hereby informed that the deadline for submission has been hereby extended to 5.00 pm Friday 4th July, 2014,” Nabbongo stated.

UBOS is set to recruit over 90,000 people as parish supervisors and census enumerators for the 2014 Uganda Population and Housing Census that starts in August.

The jobs will be temporary and the successful persons must be available from August 1 to September 14. The recruitment is directly handled at the sub county level.

At least one enumerator for every Local Council 1 village, technically called an Enumeration Area will be recruited.

Applicants for the parish/ward supervisor must be resident in the area, should be mature with experience in coordinating census and should have an advanced level certificate of education.

Enumerators are required to possess an ordinary level certificate, should be resident in the area, and an adult who is social.

The census enumeration will be conducted from 28th August to 6th September with the night of 27th August considered as the census night.

Applicants for the supervisor position are required to be holders of at least an A-Level certificate with good credits in English and Math at O-Level. They should be ordinary residents of the Sub county or Division where they wish to work and with good public relations.

The applicants for the enumerator position will be required to among other things collect information from respondents at the household level.

The applicants must also be ordinary residents of the village where they wish to work and must have as a minimum an O-Level certificate.

Training of the census recruits is expected to take place early August, shortly before the start of the census.
