Museveni meets US secretary for African affairs

President Yoweri Museveni has chaired the African Union Peace and Security Council, in Equatorial Guinea capital Malabo, where he joined other continental leaders for the 23rd ordinary session of the African Union summit.

President Museveni also met the US assistant secretary of state for African affairs Linda Thomas.

The President accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni the minister for Karamoja affairs will also participate in the Summit of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSC), chaired by President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania.

Sarah Kagingo, the Presidential Assistant for Communication in her tweet stated that during the summit, Museveni was slated to participate in a meeting of Heads of State and Government of the countries contributing resources to the African Capacity for Immediate Response to Crises (ACIRC).

The three-day summit, which ends this Friday, is organized under the theme "2014 Year of Agriculture and Food Security in Africa, Marking the 10th Anniversary of Comprehensive Africa agriculture Development programme."

During the summit, it is expected that AU heads of state and Government would discuss the status of peace and security in Africa, the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) projects, and the African Peer Review Mechanism.

A common African position on the post-2015 development agenda, which replaced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as the report of the committee of African heads of state and government on climate change, would also be deliberated upon among other matters
