Rival CP faction drops charges against Lukyamuzi

A rival faction of the Conservative Party (CP) has withdrawn a civil suit filed against party president, John Ken Lukyamuzi in which they challenged his mandate.

A rival faction of the Conservative Party (CP) has withdrawn a civil suit filed against party president, John Ken Lukyamuzi in which they challenged his mandate.
On Wednesday, when the parties to the case convened at the civil division high court presided over by Justice Lydia Mugambe, the rival faction lawyer Humphrey Tumwesigye informed court of the decision to withdraw.
“My lord I have received directives from the rivals to withdraw the case,” Tumwesigye said in a fully packed court room.
The lawyer submitted the withdrawal letter to the high court judge for record purposes.
This prompted Mugambe to drop charges against Lukyamuzi.
A rival faction of five people led by city lawyer Daniel Walyemera had sued Lukyamuzi seeking a court order to permanently restrain him from representing or acting on behalf of the party. The case was filed in 2010.
The others are Ali Mubiru (legal advisor), Fredrick Guweddeko (policy analyst), Wasib Magira (vice president), and Fredrick Lubowa (vice chairperson).
