FORMER URA FC player and head coach Alex Isabirye has accepted to return to the tax-collectors on a two-year performance based contract following his resignation of the job a season ago.

Isabirye, who quit amidst reported internal disagreements with some players, has said that he takes up the job again on condition that he will be allowed more authority to restore discipline in the Uganda Cup holders.

“Working on players discipline will be my priority because that is what has affected performance at the club,” Isabirye said as he prepared to write his acceptance letter to the URA FC board on Tuesday morning.

When Isabirye resigned his job at URA FC, he was quoted as saying, “there are so many reasons beyond finance that have forced me to resign. We all come into football to make friends but when people start to pull you down, then the best action to take as a coach is to step aside and watch from the sidelines.”

Isabirye’s last achievement at URA FC was also the 2013 Uganda Cup trophy where he beat Vipers SC in penalty shootouts in the final held in Gulu.

He replaces Uganda Cup winning coach Paul Nkata, who has been dismissed together with long time team physiotherapist Jack Walugembe. Nkata signed with the club to replace Isabirye in April 2013.

The club said on their website urafc.co.ug that after their performances in the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, CECAFA Club Championship in Sudan and FUFA Super League that Nkata’s performance had been under review before the club board sacked him on Monday.

“The club greatly appreciates the contribution of coach Nkata. He will forever be appreciated for delivering us the Uganda Cup success in 2014 but the board has opted not to renew his contract,” the statement said.
