Lands minister Daudi Migereko has blasted district and sub - country leaders across the country for engaging him in settling boundary disputes between districts and sub - counties.
Migereko asked the leaders at the launch of the national land policy in Kampala to settle the boundary disputes among themselves because “a minister doesn’t settle village disputes”
“Í am overwhelmed by village disputes. I have received many letters asking me to settle boundary disputes between sub - counties and parishes. I do not think that is the work of a minister,” he added.
The boundary disputes, Migereko noted, were being fuelled by the selfish interests of some leaders who do not want “a specific ethnic community to live in a certain area,”
He reminded such leaders of the constitutional provision that allows Ugandans to live in any part of their choice in the country.
President Yoweri Museveni and Vice President were rewarded in absentia with accolades for the roles they played towards the formulation of the policy for the last 14 years when the consultation processes began.
Former Premier Apollo Nsibambi was also rewarded for his contribution to the land sector when he was prime minister and as a lecturer at Makerere University.
