Uganda’s leading badminton player Edwin Ekiring will warm up for the Commonwealth Games by taking part in the 2014 YONEX Mauritius International badminton championship. The international event is set for June 12-15 in Mauritius.

Ekiring, who has battled some injury early this year, has been included on the badminton team to the Games that are due next month in Glasgow, Scotland and believes that this tournament will help him gauge his fitness ahead of the club games.

The Netherlands based badminton star has never won an international tournament and believes that this tournament will help boost his preparations and point out those areas that he has to improve.

“I am looking forward for a great tournament and will give it my entire try. I have been training well. It is good that I have been put on Team Uganda and I will fight to get to good grades,” said the double Olympian in both the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games.

Ekiring will also have a chance to train with the Mauritius team at the 9-court National Badminton Centre of Mauritius, the best badminton hall in the African region, after the organisers announcing the offer for those players that will arrive early for the tournament.
