SCVU coach Byekwaso eyes league triumph after Cecafa glory

Losing the league title to KCCA FC on the final day of the league and the semifinal of Uganda Cup a few days later is what inspired Sports Club Victoria University to glory in the inaugural Cecafa Nile Basin Cup.
According to coach Morley Byekwaso, his boys worked so hard all throughout and finishing the season empty-handed was going to be unfair.
Byekwaso said his side deserved something in return for their efforts.
“They needed to win something as reward for working so hard so when an opportunity availed itself in the name of Cecafa Nile Basin Cup, I urged my boys to capitalize on it and now I am very happy that they did exactly that,” he said.
With that title in the bag, the SCVU coach is now shifting his sights on the league, and he has expressed his desire to win it.
His team derived plenty of motivation from winning the maiden Cecafa Nile Basin Cup after beating Kenya's AFC Leopards 2-1 in the final.
The regional tournament is organized for Cup winners in the Cecafa region.
SCVU will give credit to Mathew Odongo and Muzamir Mutyaba for scoring the all-important goals in the final that was played in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
They travelled without some star players like Denis Iguma, Savio Kabugo and Isaac Muleme who were in camp with the national team that eliminated Madagascar in a second-leg African Nations Cup qualifier last weekend.
“My focus now is winning the league next season because we were very close next last season,” said Byekwaso.
“This tournament has given my players experience and exposure and surely next season we are going to come out stronger, ready to wrestle the league title from KCCA next season.”
The triumphant team returned home from Sudan on Friday.
