The LDC Court has charged a man with assault of a housemaid for allegedly picking avocados without his authorization.

Josephine Nakayiwa 19, a resident of Lugala-Mengo, Lubaga division Kampala who works at Roy Kimbugwe’s home was assaulted by his nephew, Sam Nkalubo, after being found picking avocadoes from the tree compound.

It is alleged that on May 10, this year at around mid-day in Lugala, Nkalubo rained punches and kicks on Nakayiwa before tearing off her clothes and leaving her in only knickers.

She sustained severe injuries on the forehead and lips.

“He fought me for thirty minutes kicking me, slapping and punching me saying that ndi mukomba box (puaper) who had no money to arrest him,” Nakayiwa told court.

Nakayiwa said she reported the matter to Old Kampala Police Station which arrested Nkalubo and charged him with assault.

Her employer (Kimbugwe) however told court that the housemaid was assaulted because of the current land wrangles between her and her elder sister, Sarah Kimbugwe.

“My housemaid is a victim of the current land disputes in our family,” Kimbugwe says.

Roy Kimbugwe informed court that her sister wanted to take over her land and sent her son Nkalubo to assault her maid as way of provoking her into a fight.

“Nkalubo assaulting my housemaid was one way of provoking me into a fight of who is powerful than the other,” Kimbugwe explained court.

Kimbugwe added that early this year Nkalubo wanted to slaughter her with a panga claiming that she was encroaching on his mother’s land when she found her in the garden digging.

In response, Nkalubo who was shying away from the camera denied the allegations saying that he didn’t know the maid in question and attributed his arrest to indifferences in the family due to land.

“Roy and her sons are forging cases so that I can be arrested and they grab our land,” Nkalubo told court.

Maria Asumpta, a caretaker of Joyce Kimbugwe, mother to the feuding sisters, told media that at one time Nkalubo burnt Nakayiwa’s clothes saying that she was being used by Roy to destabilize their family.

Nakayiwa reported the matter to Lugala police post which never helped her.

Jolly Nkore, the presiding magistrate, told the two parties to bring their witnesses in the next sitting that will take place on June 12, this year.

Nkore sent Nkalubo to Luziira prison saying that he is dangerous to the community.

“I am remanding you to Luziira prison because you are a threat to the community,” Nkore told court.
