Cranes will cruise all the way, says Sserunkuma

Ugandan striker Dan Sserunkuma believes that the Cranes will cruise to the second round of the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers despite losing 1-2 to Madagascar in the first leg.

The pint-sized striker is confident that Cranes will overturn the result in the return leg fi xture set for Namboole fortress in Kampala after a fortnight.

“We stand the best chance to qualify because we will be playing at home. It was a good game in Madagascar though we lost but the most important thing is that we have an away goal.

“It was very vital to get that away goal and I can promise it will play a very decisive role when we clash again in the return leg match. It will boost our confidence and we will go for the kill,” Sserunkuma told Saturday Vision in Nairobi, Kenya, after resuming training with champions Gor Mahia.

“Madagascar are beatable and remember we will be playing at Namboole – a very difficult hunting ground for most visiting teams,” he said.

“We will also have our home fans supporting us there and I believe that will give us motivation. We will be prepared for the match because we need to qualify for the next stage.”

The Gor Mahia forward noted that their main dream is to end a 32-year wait and reach the final of the showpiece to be staged in Morocco but cautioned that they will take a game at a time.

“We have the ability to do it but we need to go step by step, focusing on each game. If we can get to the group stages of the qualifications, it will be very good for us.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito, who also played in the defeat to Madagascar, echoed Sserunkuma’s, sentiments insisting Cranes stand a good chance of advancing.

The Cranes regrouped for training and are expected to camp at Sky Hotel this weekend.
