Charity stroll to victory over Wanderers

CHARITY were always expected to beat the Wanderers in their UCA National League division one meeting at Lugogo on Sunday. 

Even then, the Wanderers could have made a fist of it. They didn’t, collapsing to 100 all out in 39.1 overs and making it much easier for Charity than they probably thought. 

Hamu Kayondo once again led the Wanderers but his 30 runs meant hopes of a big total would not materialise. Jonathan Sebanja claimed 3/5 for Charity, who made no mistake with their chase. 

Henry Senyondo scored a team-best 27 runs for Charity, who sealed the win with 29 overs to spare. Charity have now won their first two games and are second in the standings, one win behind Tornado B, who have played a game more.

By contrast, the Wanderers are winless in three games and are stuck at the bottom of the table. 

In division 2, Chris Engola inspired Africa to a thrilling 49-run win over the Kutchi Tigers at Budo. Engola contributed a respectable 45 runs to ACC’s first innings total of 260 before returning to claim a mindboggling 7/53 as the Tigers threatened to overhaul their target. 

Africa were led by the legendary Junior Kwebiha, who smashed 67 off 59 balls, in a reminder of his timeless quality. Kutchi were led by Mansuck Gorasia with 92 off 121. 

Meanwhile, Mwiri hammered Makerere by 116 runs in the clash of academic institutions at Entebbe. Allan Semakula and Edmond Musaazi scored 29 and 27 runs respectively for Mwiri, who set 169/10 in 43.4 overs.

Hillary Kutesa took 3/20 for Makererere, who were led by Phillip Thawithemwira with 13 runs. Peter Tumusiime claimed 4/9 for Mwiri.
