U-13 teams prepare for East Africa Cup

THIRTY seven U13 soccer players have been summoned from the slums of Mulago and Makerere Kivulu areas in Kampala to start training ahead of the annual East Africa Youth Cup scheduled for late June in Moshi, Tanzania.

A Christian based body Chrisc Uganda aimed at improving the lives of needy children selected the kids on Tuesday following their performances at the U13 tournament at St. Martin Primary School in Mulago.

“We have been able to scout who we think are the best and shall have to contact their parents to see if they can avail us their children for the training that starts next week. This is done every year with an aim of giving the needy an opportunity to be exposed through their talents,” Chrisc country coordinator John Bosco Kaddu said.

At the tournament Percus beat All Stars in the finals that ended in a 9-8 penalty shootout after a goalless draw at fulltime.  

The final team of 15 boys who will be picked after a month-long training program will join the U13 girls’ team that is currently undergoing training under Coach Mike Latti in Lira and the seating volleyball team that is also undergoing training in Luweero.

The three teams will represent Uganda at the event that attracts participants from host nation Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.

Last year, Uganda finished in second and third place in the boys U13 soccer and seating volleyball respectively.
