A one-year old-baby who was snatched from his home was discovered mutilated with several body parts missing.

Brian Mulima, according to the mother, Proscovia Namugaanyi of Lwamikoma - Lwamanya village, Kituntu sub county, Mpigi district, was taken in his sleep in broad daylight when she had gone gardening nearby.

Namugaanyi narrated that on the fateful day she, as always, went gardening and left her baby sleeping in the house. She noted that whenever the baby woke up and cried she was within hearing distance and always responded to his cries.

On that day however, she said she heard her baby cry once and went silent. "I thought he was just having a bad dream so I did not think much of it," she said.

The grieving mother says she left the garden at midday and out of a mother's instinct went to check on her sleeping baby. She found the baby missing.

"I asked his elder siblings if anyone had entered the house but they knew nothing," Namugaanyi said of her other children she had left playing outside the house.

Panicked, she alerted neighbours and together with the police headed by Augustine Mwesigwa, they mounted a search for the missing child. The search yielded nothing.

On Saturday morning the search party stumbled upon the baby's remains. It was one unsightly spectacle. The boy's head had a gaping wound; his brains had been scooped out! His tongue and private parts had also been severed and hair cut off.

Residents suspect that the boy could have been a victim of ritual sacrifice. The area is reported to habour over 80 shrines.

The Police at Gombe later handed over the body to the family for burial saying investigations it the barbaric act would commence to apprehend the suspects.
