AS the campaign to collect money for the rehabilitation of Buganda properties and cultural sites continues, the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga on Wednesday raised Sh177m from Makindye Division in Kampala district.

Mayiga collected the money from private companies, institutions of learning, individuals and health facilities.

The money which was collected through the leadership of Makindye division is meant to assist in the completion of Bulange Plaza which was erected many years ago but remained unfinished.

“I want to assure you that this is just the beginning, I have very many plans for Buganda so let us work together and stay committed for us to achieve all these plans,” said Mayiga.

Mayiga assured Buganda loyalists that he would ensure there is accountability for all the monies that have been contributed by different people around the country for accomplishment of all the Buganda projects.

However, the Baganda asked Katikkiro to consider embarking on projects like starting up a Buganda bank, hospital and Television to support the Kingdom.

During the ‘Etofali’ (brick) fundraising drive in Makindye division, the Katikkiro visited different places such as the International Hospital Kampala where he collected sh5m, Foundation for Human Rights Initiative, East and Horn of Africa where he raised sh4m with each contributing sh2m.

The Katikkiro who was received with pomp and dancing, urged the Buganda loyalists to be hard working and also consider educating the young generation for a better Buganda and the country at large.
