Kawempe makes dominant start to Ball Games

NATIONAL girls’ defending champions Kawempe Muslim marched on to the second round, after winning all their three games in the girls’ football of the ongoing National Ball games at Lango College in Lira.

Kawempe, now tops group A with maximum points and a pregnant goal difference from three games of the 5 group games, after seeing off lowly Wobulenzi with a 12-0 thumping, followed by a 4-1 victory over St Steven, before registering a 11-0 win over Kalinabili, to register the highest number of goals scored in three games at the event.

Title rivals St. Mary’s Kitende were held to a 0-0 draw by lowly Mbale Progressive while Wiggins saw off Kyambogo College with a 1-0 win.

Meanwhile, Kibingo Girls from Ankole took charge of Group F with a 3-0 win over Prince Badru Kakungulu from Kyazanga to take their tally to 7 points from three games.

In hockey, girls defending champions Gayaza High School were taken to school after they were hammered 5-0 by merciless Kings College Budo.

Former winners Kakungulu Memorial also beat record national champions City High School 2-0 and also saw off Budo with a 1-0 win to take charge of the standings ahead of the second round due on Wednesday.

In the boys’ category, Ntare School from Mbarara kept their chances of reaching the second round alive with a 1-0 win over City High.

The games continue with schools competing in girls’ football, basketball, rugby, lawn tennis, hockey and table tennis.

The one week event, that has started pulling hundreds of spectators from in and around Lira town, will climax on Sunday with the finals in different disciplines and an awards ceremony.
