A 69-year-old man who in 1996 gave President Yoweri Museveni a grinding stone (olubengo) that became synonymous with his successful presidential bid is dead.
Sam Kitaka has been unwell for the last three months, relatives at his Bulumagi home near Nyenga have said.
During the 1996 elections, Kitaka then LC3 chairman of Nyenga sub-county gave Museveni a grinding stone (Olubengo) saying that Ugandans have tasked /entrusted him with leadership.
By so doing, Kitaka then an influential LC3 chairman Nyenga Sub-County, Mukono District was declaring Museveni as the most suitable candidate to carry Uganda’s burdens.
The historic event took place at at Nyenga sub county headquarters in Buikwe.
At the scene where Museveni carried the stone, Kitaka and his colleagues erected a monument to commemorate the day and its signifance in the NRM politics
Several prominent NRM supporters regularly visit the monument, which is the only one mounted by civilians for President Museveni in Uganda.
