FOOTBALL referees, aspiring match assessors and referee instructors have camped at the FUFA technical centre in Njeru where they are expected undergo a week-long Elite Referees Course that started with a fitness test at Namboole on Tuesday.

Retired referees Catherine Adipo, Abbas Sendyowa, Asuman Kityo, Ali Waisswa and Emmanuel Egesa have been selected to work with the FIFA instructors Mark Ephraim Mzengo and Zimbabwean Felix Ntangawarima for the rest of the course at the FUFA technical centre Njeru near Jinja.

Haruna Kebba was forced back to take charge of the FIFA referees fitness test at Mandela National Stadium yesterday despite his resignation early this month.

FUFA referees chairman Sam Mpiima was forced to recall Kebba after to instruct the 34 referees, aspiring instructors and assessors.

“I was recalled to help the FIFA official Mark Ephraim Mzengo from Malawi because he was going to be alone and yet there were so many referees at the test but that does not mean I am back,” Kebba said after the exercise.

Kebba, who was recently forced to resign his duty as FIFA fitness instructor because of conflict of interest as he doubled as FUFA Super League club Kira Young coach. He will not continue with the rest of the course programme.

All the participants at the fitness test were successful save for former FIFA centre referee Ronnie Kalema and FSL referee William Ssenkumba, who failed.

Female FIFA assistant referee Diana Mukasa did not take the test because of a knee injury. Brian Nsubuga (out of the country) and Kalifan Kanakulya did not show up.
