THE Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mutebi will flag off the Kabaka’s Birthday Run due April 6 at Mengo.

Buganda Kingdom's sports and recreation minister Henry Ssekabembe announced the development after receiving a sh100m cheque from Airtel Uganda yesterday.

Airtel Mobile money director Nuhu Kanyike presented the cheque at Airtel house on Monday. Money from the run will go towards the treatment of Fistula among women.

“We all know Fistula is one of the silent killers in villages and some people were associating it with witchcraft, so when the Buganda kingdom approached us to join hands in we felt privileged to aid our people,” Kanyike said.

“We want to appreciate our partnership with the Kabaka and the run and we shall continue to associate ourselves with other causes as a way of giving back to the community,” Kanyike stated.

Ssekambembe said the organisers are expecting a minimum of 20,000 runners although they are ready to accommodate even a bigger number.

“We call upon corporate companies, and all good hearted people to join us in this noble cause by participating in the run,” Ssekabembe said.

He said the Kingdom’s first task was to ensure that all the King’s subjects who need help are aided.

Last week Vision Group through Bukedde also presented a sh110m cheque for the same course

There will be a 21 kilometer race besides 5 and 10km races on a course that will after flag-off at Lubiri have participants running past the kingdom’s historic sites like Bulange, Kabaka’s lake and the Kasubi royal tombs.
