NATIONAL University Sports Federation of Uganda (NUSFU) vice president Vincent Kisenyi has decried the element of hooliganism at the Nile Special University Football League.

While launching the third edition of the competition in Kampala yesterday, Kisenyi, who is representing new entrants Uganda Christian University (UCU), said that the institutions need to help organisers to avoid hooligan¬ism.

He said this will help the organisers maintain their sponsors.

“It is our desire to see all NUSFU members participating in the league,” Kisenyi stated.

“But as we look forward to that, let us take full control of our (respective) teams and make sure that sponsors are not disappointed at all.”

Busitema and Gulu University will also make maiden appearances in the competition that will start on Tuesday.

The teams join Mbarara University of Science and Technology, defending champions Kampala University, Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi, Makerere University Business Sschool, Nkumba, Makerere, Ndejje, Kampala International University and Kyambogo University who are making a comeback.

Organisers have increased the total cash prize from sh10m last year to sh12m for the teams and the outstanding players.

The top three teams will win sh2.5m, sh1.5m, sh1m respectively. The remaining nine teams will get sh500,000 each. The top players will share sh2.5m.
