THE Zuku University Basketball League (ZUBL) made it to Match Day 2 and that is one more step in the right direction.
After the enforced cancellation of the official launching press conference on Friday, there was a sense that the differences within university sports body NUSFU were derailing the progress of the ZUBL, a week after it begun.
But it appears the ZUBL directors subscribe to the simple dictum that states, ‘the show must go on’.
On Saturday, they ignored the bumps and took the action to Uganda Christian University Mukono, where four universities (in the form of four men’s and three women’s sides) faced off in five separate contests.
Ndejje dominant
Ndejje University are dominating the early running in the men’s bracket after taking their record to three wins out of three after demolishing Kisubi Brothers’ University 56-15 before pipping hosts UCU 55-53 in the clash of the day.
Makerere University men humbled St. Lawrence 61- 39 while the UCU women thrashed their Ndejje counterparts 65-33.
After the day’s action, Zuku’s Silalei Owour told New Vision: “There is a lot of positivity and desire to be a part of the league.
“Branded new uniforms were given to UCU, Makerere and Ndejje which sparked a lot of excitement.
She added: “I think today was the tip of the iceberg and a confirmation to many that despite the rumours, the league is definitely on.”
