AFTER being outclassed by current Rwenzori Group FUFA Big League table leaders Baza Holdings FC on Tuesday, Gulu University FC risks being eliminated from the league.

The 2-1 defeat at Pece War Memorial Stadium was set in motion by an early goal just six minutes into the game through Mwanje Zziwa’s strike.

Gulu’s misery was deepened when Umar Ngobi doubled Baza’s lead in the 12th minute.

Conceding those two early goals left the home side rattled and disoriented as they tried to force their way back into the tie.

The varsity team settled in the second half and were rewarded when Francis Aloo netted what turned out be a consolation goal in the 56th minute of the hotly contested match.

Gulu were left feeling aggrieved when centre referee Samuel Kakembo controversially denied them a penalty in the final minute of regulation time.

Assistant referee Alex Ojera raised his flag for an apparent handball but was overruled by Kakembo who waved away the appeals.

The loss puts Gulu University at a great risk of being relegated at the end of the season having failed to pick points regularly to improve on their lowly league position.

Gulu must win all its remaining matches if the club is to survive relegation.

It has so far collected 11 points with seven matches left until the end of the season where the matches will be played on May 10th against Mvara Boys at Aura Hills Primary School.

Gulu will host Artland FC this Saturday, Pece Stadium followed by a trip to Kiteezi Primary School in Kampala to face Wandegeya FC.
