It’s so sad that this has happened to your family; I empathise with you. Lack of peace is a natural response to such an abnormal situation, a reason why you need to allow yourself to grieve.

I call it grieving because it involves loss of trust, stigma and unforgiveness. This raises issues of defilement, which have legal implications that must be troubling your husband as well.

Therefore it is important for you to stand firm so that you do not lose both your husband and family. You can also quickly step out to mobilise family and friends to stand with you. Try to give the children the basic information without traumatising them.

If you do not tell them, remember they are watching and feeling your friction, or might even get it from other sources, which may hurt them more.

Lastly, the power to live in peace lies within your hands, so make an effort to create peace in your family, by forgiving your husband and yourself.

Make efforts to work on the issues that could have led your husband to cheat on you, work on your self-esteem, as well as his and cooperate when the arm of the law steps in.

Try to compose yourself and let God encourage you in this storm.
